Building Landscape Services Office Building
University of Maryland College Park
College Park, Maryland

A new 12,700 s.f. office building for Building Landscape Services at the University of Maryland College Park. The project houses various campus wide service related functions including Grounds, Housekeeping, Pest Control, Solid Waste, and Special Services. The two story building occupies a site within the Grounds Compound just west of the Comcast Center on the north side of campus. It is the continuation of an architectural theme established by other buildings in the compound with a brick base at the first floor and corrugated metal building panels at the second floor.

There are two distinct sides to the building. The east elevation (facing the Grounds Compound) is punched openings while the west elevation (facing the forest buffer) is ribbon window to maximize the view to the trees and forest edge. There is a large, open stair at the north end of the building to promote ease of circulation between floors and support the Green Globes and LEED Silver initiatives.

Completed: January 2014
Client: University of Maryland College Park, College Park MD
Construction Manager: Whiting Turner Contracting Company
Cost: $5.4 M
